Summer Professional Development

Welcome!

This wiki is a place for people to sign-up and experiment with the many web2.0 tools. In order to sign-up, go to the Experience Page and add your name to the list where you feel you best fit. From there, we can begin experimenting with the different tools, adding them to this page or to various other types of medium.

If you don't understand how a wiki works, then watch this video: (or click here to watch the video with subtitles in other languages)

I hope this becomes a place where educators can gather and share ideas and thought about using these tools in their lives, classrooms included.

In order to add your name, click on the Experience Page link, click edit, add your name, click save. You are in!!

To add a page, click add a page, give it a name, click add. You will then need to add a link to the page so go to the home page, click Link, find your page in the list, click add and then save the page. Woohoo - your page is added.

Calendar - here we can begin organizing different activities. It might help to see what time people have for different activities.

Read/Write Web - site where they have a great selection of Web2.0 tools. One of my favourites.

Go2Web20 - site with new tools that are being introduced to the scene.

Now all we need to do is spread the word and get people to gather.

Who started this? Is there a profile for people invited in? Can anyone join in or do you have to be invited?

Has anyone used Wikispaces? I have more experience with that site and was wondering how others felt about it or about any wiki site. This one is easy but I was able to get in easily without a password. Wondering about the privacy issue in a school setting. Still in the market for one to use next year.

I have used Wikispaces and found it easy to set up and work with, unfortunately it was a little difficult for my Hebrew speaking students.
Wikispaces offer free "private" wikis for teachers. This means that the site is password protected and only invited members can join.
Another wiki that I played around with some time ago is the Zoho wiki, wiki.zoho.com - can't remember if the wiki can be private or not. By the way Zoho have some great tools, their notebook is really interesting.

I'm glad you were able to put it back. :) When I saw in my e-mail that the whole front page was deleted, I thought that the wiki was being closed. I'm glad it's still here.

I'm trying to imagine how a student would feel if it happened to him.

We have a nice size group to get started on our summer self-development series. Let's start posting some events on the calendar and get to work. :D

The Lee LeFever video is one of many. Cute videos for understanding all kinds of Web 2.0 ideas. http://www.commoncraft.com/

It seems some people have been busy. I am doping to get to work in the next few days. I've been "working" and haven't had too much time to do any school work. The zoho wiki can be made private as can the pbwiki. I've used wikispaces but I like the pbwiki and it works much better at our school that is why I use it. It doesn't really matter to me what we use! As for access, this is open to anyone who would like to add their information or do any work with others from here. Right now I'm hot and tired so I'm off to the pool for some relaxation.
